You booked the time off. You rearranged your day. And then the call comes: your appointment has been cancelled, or moved to three weeks from now. Or you sit in a waiting room well past your scheduled time. Or worse, you spend months just trying to get in the door.
If that sounds familiar, it is not your imagination. In mainstream healthcare, missed appointments, last-minute reschedules, and long waits are the norm, and they are measurable. So we measured them, and then we measured ourselves against them.
First, let's be clear about what we are. IVONNE® is a skincare and aesthetics clinic. We are not a medical or healthcare provider, and nothing here is a claim to be one, or a substitute for medical care. But reliability and speed of access are things everyone values, no matter what kind of appointment it is. So the comparisons below are exactly that: how our reliability and access stack up next to what people have come to expect from the public system. Different kind of care, same frustrations, very different experience.
A "no-show" is when someone misses an appointment without cancelling first, leaving the time empty. Across medical and dental practices, published figures put the average no-show rate at roughly 23%, and cancellations pile on top of that. In dentistry, one dataset across thousands of practices found nearly a quarter of confirmed appointments never happened as booked.
The other side of reliability is whether we keep your appointment. When the clinic has to move you, that is just as disruptive as a no-show, so we track it too.
In Canada's public system, the wait is measured in months. The Fraser Institute's 2025 report found a median of 28.6 weeks from a family doctor's referral to treatment nationally. Ontario was the fastest province, at 19.2 weeks, still more than four months, with roughly 15 of those weeks just to see a specialist after referral.
IVONNE figures are typical (median) values from our own appointment records over the past two years. Public-system figures are drawn from the Fraser Institute's Waiting Your Turn 2025 report and describe a different kind of care; they are offered as context, not as a like-for-like clinical comparison.
When you are choosing where to go for any kind of care, the treatment itself gets all the attention. But whether the appointment actually happens, and how long you wait for it, is what determines whether care fits into your real life. A cancelled or bumped appointment does not just cost you an afternoon; it delays results and breaks the rhythm of a plan. And when access takes months, a lot of people simply give up.
We are a skincare and aesthetics clinic, not a hospital. But we decided early that reliability and access were things worth being genuinely good at, not things you should have to hope for. That is why we track these numbers, and why we are comfortable showing them next to the system everyone already knows.
Your appointment stays put. You are seen in about a week, not a season. And if the clinic ever does have to move you, that is the rare exception, not a routine part of the experience.
That is the standard we hold ourselves to. If reliability and timely access matter to you, they are worth asking any clinic about before you book.
