Long gone are the days of over-plucking, waxing, and pencil-thin eyebrows.

The fluffy, thick brows of the 80s (a la Brooke Shields and Whitney Houston) are making their way back, and this past year microblading and nanoblading exploded onto the scene here in Ottawa. Forget any piece of clothing - great brows became the new fashion ‘must-have'!

"If you don't have eyebrows, you don't really have a face."

- Saoirse Ronan

I mean, Elle Magazine even wrote an article on the best celebrity eyebrows! So you know this is serious business.

But not everyone is a good candidate for (or wants) semi-permanent eyebrows. Luckily, 2020 has them covered, too! Another option has been making waves for those looking to shape up their game: eyebrow lamination. If you're looking for a change more drastic than what a tint or henna brow can deliver, these are for you. It's not just a local trend, either - brow lamination has been featured in magazines like Harper's Bazaar, Allure, and Glamour, promising brows on par with those of your fave celebs.

Check out this video of Beauty Insider producer Malika Jones-Fielder receiving the treatment for the first time:

What Exactly is Eyebrow Lamination?

Brow lamination is used to correct your eyebrow shape

and tame unruly hair that just doesn't cooperate with styling.

While microblading and nano brows are great for those folks who may be lacking in the brow department, eyebrow lamination uses the hair you already have to shape perfectly feathered arches that frame your face. It doesn't actually add any pigment to your skin to build out the brows, and has a shorter shelf-life, lasting about a month. This makes it a great option if you're nervous about committing to a new look, or if you like to change up your style on a regular basis. Plus, who doesn't like the idea of shortening your morning routine!?

How Does It Work?

Eyebrow lamination originated in Moscow, and is a process similar to eyelash lifts and/or tints! It became popular in the UK earlier this year and much to our delight is now making its way to the North American markets.

The full service takes about an hour. Your technician will shape your brows into a beautiful, full, fluffy shape and will hold them in place with an adhesive. Depending on how thick your eyebrows are and your skin type, a setting solution is applied for an amount of time determined for you by your tech. Follow all of that up with a conditioning solution, and a tint to amp up the colour, and you're on your way with a brand new look!

As long as you follow the after-care instructions you're given, your brows should maintain their shape for about a month.

If you're blessed with full brows that just need a bit of taming to help get you out the door faster each morning, brow lamination might be the way to go! Still on the fence? Give the team at Ivonne Sanchez a call with all your questions, or search #browlamination on instagram for more before and afters!

Regardless of what you ultimately deem to be the best option for you, with all of the options available {year} is definitely set-up to be the year of the brows.
